The short version: Bidding charges a 20% deposit (minimum $25). Get outbid and the whole deposit comes back automatically. The highest bid on a spot when the auction closes wins it, and the rest is charged to the same card. I check every logo by hand before it goes on the car, and I can refuse one.
What is being sold
Eighteen decal spots on a 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF that I own and drive daily. Winning a spot buys you a printed die-cut vinyl decal of your logo on that car for one season of six months, plus a listing on this site with a link to yours. The car lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and runs Highway 1 to Los Angeles several times a year.
This is a personal project run by Iann, in San Francisco, California. It is an open homage to brandmymac.com. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Mazda Motor Corporation. They just make a great car.
How the auction works
- Placing a bid charges a deposit of 20% of your bid, minimum $25, by card. Your bid does not count until the deposit is paid.
- Every spot stays biddable until the auction closes, including spots that already have a leader. A new bid must beat the standing one by at least $25, in whole dollars. Bigger jumps are allowed.
- If someone outbids you, your entire deposit is refunded automatically to the card that paid it. Bidding again is a fresh bid with a fresh deposit.
- The auction has a hard close at the time shown on the site. There is no extension for last-minute bids; a bid that arrives after the close does not count and any deposit taken for it is refunded.
- The highest bid on a spot when the auction closes wins it, whether or not the overall goal is reached.
Paying, and what happens if you don't
The card you pay the deposit with is saved for the balance. If your bid wins, the remainder (your winning bid minus the deposit you already paid) is charged to that card when the auction closes. If that charge fails, I email you a payment link instead.
If a winner does not pay the remainder within 7 days of the close, the deposit is forfeited and the spot may be offered to the next highest bidder. No hard feelings, but the auction has to resolve.
All amounts are in US dollars.
Bids are binding
You cannot cancel a bid yourself. Once placed, a bid stands until it is outbid or the auction closes. If you are outbid, your deposit comes back in full automatically, so the only bid you can end up paying for is one that wins.
Your logo
By uploading a logo you confirm you have the right to use it and to let me display and print it for this project.
Your logo usually appears on this site as soon as your deposit clears; occasionally it is held briefly for review first. I review every logo by hand before anything is printed and put on the car, and I may refuse or remove any bid at my sole discretion, without having to justify the decision. The car is mine and I keep the final say over what it carries. If I refuse yours, your bid is cancelled and your deposit comes back in full.
What I promise, and what I don't
I will print your decal, put it on the car, and drive that car the way I already do: around the Bay Area daily, and down Highway 1 to Los Angeles several times a year. It will appear in the photos and videos I publish.
I make no promise about impressions, reach, views, clicks, or results. Nobody can honestly guarantee those for a car, and I will not invent a number. You are buying presence, not performance.
A decal is a paid placement, not an endorsement, in either direction: I do not vouch for the brands on the car, and they do not vouch for me.
If a brand on the car later turns out to be fraudulent, unlawful, or materially misrepresented, I may remove its decal and refund the remaining time pro rata.
If things go wrong
If the car is lost, stolen, totaled, or replaced, I will move your decal to its replacement or refund you pro rata for the time remaining, whichever you prefer.
If I cancel the auction before it closes, every deposit is refunded in full and nothing further is owed by anyone.
Who you are dealing with
This site is published and operated by Iann, San Francisco, California. Contact: @iannwu on X.
Card payments are processed by Stripe. I never see or store your card details.
Decal spots are sold as advertising space to businesses and professionals, not to consumers. Prices are in US dollars; a winning bid is collected as the 20% deposit when you bid and the balance when the auction closes.
